Hygienist Rachel graduated from James Madison University in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Between 2007 and 2012, Rachel worked in immunology research at La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology and The Scripps Research Institute, publishing several papers on the immune response to viral infection.Although research was very challenging and rewarding, Rachel sought a profession that would allow her to work with patien¬ts and have a more direct impact on an individuals’ health. In 2010, Rachel began volunteering for Thousand Smiles Foundation (TSF), where she met Dr. Thylin. From that moment on, Rachel had found her passion for dental hygiene. Rachel graduated summa cum laude from West Los Angeles College Dental Hygiene program in 2014. She earned several awards, including the California Dental Hygienists’ Association Student Leadership Award, Wilma Motley Memorial California Merit Scholarship, California Dental Hygiene Educators’ Association Scholarship and the Colgate Student Total Achievement Recognition (S.T.A.R.) Award. Upon graduation, Rachel began working at a periodontal dental office, treating severe cases of periodontal disease. Rachel joined Dr. Thylin’s office in 2015. She is eager to provide all of her patients with the highest level of dental hygiene care. In her free time she enjoys surfing, rock climbing, and camping.
