All you need to know about Same Day CEREC crowns

Same-Day Dental Crowns CEREC crown

Conventional dental crown treatment requires a minimum of two sessions at your dentist’s office and needs a minimum of one week for the restoration of your damaged teeth. However, CEREC crown treatment can be completed within a single session, and your damaged teeth can be restored within a few hours.

Here are some differences between a traditional crown and same day CEREC crowns:

Traditional crowns v/s CEREC crowns

What Is a Traditional Crown?

A traditional crown is a tooth-shaped cover which is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth. Crowns are used when a dental decay cannot be treated with dental fillings. Dental crowns are manufactured in an off-site laboratory and hence can be a time-consuming process. Traditional crowns are made using different materials such as a combination of metals, porcelain, and zirconia.

What is a CEREC Crown?

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. Similar to traditional crowns, CEREC Crowns are utilized when your tooth is too damaged to be repaired using dental fillings.

However, unlike the process of traditional crowns, CEREC crowns allow for creation and designing of the crown using computer software in a single visit. CEREC allows dentists to mill a crown from a robust ceramic material which resembles the other healthy teeth.

How Is a CEREC Crown-Made & Placed?

At Carlsbad Coastal Dental, using the CEREC technology, the crown is placed on your teeth during your first visit itself. We begin with taking an image of the decayed tooth which requires repair. These images are then uploaded to a computer which is transmitted to a CEREC mill, and a natural-appearing crown is prepared within half an hour. Patients do not require to undergo messy impressions and experience temporary plastic crowns.
